Sharpening Photos

I been palying around with photoshop on how to sharpen image. I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Until I found this tutorial from Pipho which was shared by HartSord (thanks!).
Heres his steps in sharpening images.

1) Convert to Lab (Image>Mode>Lab)
2) Load lightness as a selection (Alt-Ctrl-1 on a PC)
3) Invert the selection (Shft-Ctrl-I)
4) Select the Luminance channel (click on the channel tab, click on the L channel)
5) Apply USM (Amount 300-400% for high-res images, radius 1px, threshold 2. For lower-res images, use a lower amount)

An additional step for more punch:
6) Still with selection active, apply USM again (Amount 50-60%, radius 20-30px, threshold 2. For lower-res images, try amount 20-30%, radius 5-10px, threshold 2)

Here is the result
